Hempel Foundation visits SOS Children’s Villages in Rwanda

A delegation of 26 people from the Hempel Foundation led by Mr. Anders Holm, Executive Director, jointly with SOS Children’s Villages Denmark visited SOS Children’s Villages in Rwanda Kura Umenye remedial program at Umuvandimwe Primary School and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA).

During their visit, they met the Senior Management team from SOS Children’s Villages in Rwanda with Mr. Jean Bosco Kwizera as the National Director lead. They discussed how both organizations may strengthen the partnership for the well-being of vulnerable children in schools and the community.
The National Director of SOS Children’s Villages in Rwanda Mr. Jean Bosco Kwizera appreciated the existing collaboration with the Hempel Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages in Denmark through the Kura Umenye Programme.

“We really appreciate the interventions of the Hempel Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages Denmark to support vulnerable children in primary who are academically challenged in a fast-paced learning environment in 120 schools in Rwanda,” Jean Bosco Kwizera explained.

“I can testify how the Remedial learning program is helping my daughter to perform better in class. Before joining the Remedial Learning program, she was struggling to get 50% in her scores but now she got 73%,“ explained Alphonse Nkubana one of the parents whose child attends the Remedial Learning Program at Muvandimwe Primary School.”

According to Aline, a 12-year-old girl in the Umuvandimwe Primary School, her performance has improved ever since she joined the Remedial Learning Program. The Executive Director of the Hempel Foundation Mr. Anders Holm said that he is very impressed by the interventions of SOS Children’s Villages in Rwanda especially in childcare.

Anders equally said, “We choose to strengthen education because everyone knows that education is the key to success. The Hempel Foundations supports 6,000 schools across the World including Umuvandimwe Primary School.”He pledged the support of the Hempel Foundation to continue strengthening the education of vulnerable children across the World.

The Hempel Foundation supports under the Kura Umenye project a remedial learning after-school program to support the most vulnerable underperforming children in primary four, five and six in 120 public schools in eight districts in Rwanda. In the same project, children’s parents are trained and enrolled in the Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) for economic empowerment and self-reliance.
