In-Company Instructors receive a 5-day ToT on Swimming Pool installation

Early in the morning of 30th June 2022, Gervais was installing the swimming pool filter together with the team that he has been training. They were sharing ideas on the best way to install a filter. He was emphasizing providing training skills to participants who will in the end train apprentices.

The training of trainers (ToT) on Swimming pool installation was carried out on the site located at Nyarutarama cell, Gasabo District, in the city of Kigali. It was delivered by a plumbing expert called Gervais MBONITANGA who shared his technical expertise with a team of 12 participants. The latter were from different institutions and companies that are involved in dual training implementation as partners of the TVET-BiWe Partnership Project executed by SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda in the trade of plumbing. These is WASAC Ltd, Ayateke Star Company Ltd, Einstein Plumbers Ltd, Electricom Ltd and PSPC Ltd.

Three topics on: beginning installation of pipes that surround the swimming pool, installation of pump and filter and checking how the swimming pool works after being installed were covered in five days during the above-mentioned period.
The five days training trainers on swimming pool installation was organized by the TVET-BiWe Partnership Project in the period of June-August 2022.

“Dual training is the best way of training as it allows the trainee to get enough time and access to the training at the company, where he/she acquires more practical skills needed on the job market. Gervais mentioned.

Gervais and his trainees are proud to work with TVET-BiWe Partnership Project as partners in dual training. In his testimony, Gervais appreciates a lot the TVET-BiWe Partnership Project on how they implement the one-year dual training, which is fruitful, as graduates have enough practical skills.

“Time for theory and memorizing is now over, it is time for the hands-on skills because they are going to play a leading role in all forms of work all over the World. People have to understand that TVET-BiWe Partnership Project courses are in line with the changing modern technology on the international level. So, through the acquired technical training, we are able to prepare our trainees for the labour market in the future,” Gervais comments.

With the dual approach of training, In-Company Instructors have also changed their mindsets and way of doing.

“Given the experience, I went through, this project also shaped me to be more proactive in my daily work compared to the time before being selected as a trainer. I realized that practice is the key to success in my career”. Gervais states.

The TVET-BiWe Partnership Project is implemented with the funds of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via sequa gGmbH. The main goal of the project is to strengthen young people with the necessary skills to compete at the labour market, via the dual model of training in trades of plumbing and welding, for a period of one year.
